LPE1 form really needed for house?

I am in the process of selling a leasehold house.  Leasehold houses are common where I live, the rent is only around £6 per year, with long leases (+900 year lease).  I have previously bought, and sold 2 houses on this estate, and can never remember being asked to pay for a LPE1 form (£300 plus VAT).  Is it usually needed in this sort of sale or is it the buyers solicitor being a pain? Many thanks.

Does anything happen with the lease other than you paying the rent? If no management etc of common parts then I'm not sure what else needs confirmed. What's your solicitor's advice?

Sadly I found I had to pay this. I recall it containing info that only the management company could provide, bit it probably took them all of 30-60 mins to do 😭

Solicitor says I have to have it, seems madness,as it can only really show the rent to pay, as there are no communal areas or parks that need to be paid for.  The lease can be bought for about £2k.

Did they expand on why you "have to have it"? It's a matter for negotiation, it's not mandatory for any legal reason.
