Tall Scratching Post?

I'm thinking of investing in a scratching post that is tall enough so that the cat can stretch his full length when scratching. I've read that this can stop them feeling the need to howk lumps out of the stair carpet. I need to replace the carpet at some point but don't want to do this only to have it ruined with holes.
Does anyone have a tall scratching post and if so, where from and is it stable as am concerned it might tip over? Thanks 😻

Amazon have a good selection. Ours is nearly 3ft tall, and rock solid - perfect for a big cat!

Spray some lemoncy zesty stuff on your tread edges. That will stop it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I’ve bought several of these for my two, one of whom is a huge cat - they’ve never managed to tip it over

I too have a 90cm post that's never fallen over - the brand I've bought is out of stock at the moment, but hopefully the consensus means that you'll be fairly safe with any brand!
We also have a couple of Trixie wall mounted posts if you have particularly big or boisterous cats and a suitable brick wall - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trixie-Scratching-Post-Wall-Mounting/dp/B01HKVD91I

Thanks everyone, good to hear the taller posts don't tip as hes a big strong cat. He has managed to shred his smaller scratching post. Hopefully being able to stretch and scratch will give the carpet a break 🤞🏼0

If you already have a good strong base, you can just buy a replacement pole bit - maybe not useful this time, but when your new big post inevitably becomes worn, first flip it, then just replace the pole bit using the same base and top. Takes a few minutes with an allen key and saves a few quid.1

Some cats also just prefer hozizontal scratching to vertical - so will carry on with the carpet even with a tall post (one of my three cats is like this). I got a long mat made of the sisal material (with rubber backing so it doesn't slip) and that has made all the difference.1

I have a 7kg British shorthair who is a long/big muscular cat so needs strong stable scratching posts. I buy mine from * rhrpets.co.uk* they are a Netherlands company and their cat posts/cat trees are really durable and they also do spare parts. They are expensive but for the quality I think they are good value and my cat has not destroyed his yet - have had them for 3/4 years. Grey one 124cm high, black 86cm.

We have an old carpet tube covered in scratchy material for cats. It is definitely over 1m long and we made it ourselves. We also have a Maine Coon girl amongst others. It works except for our fluffy giant being lazy and she attacks the stairs. This had encouraged her little brother to follow suit.I think positioning these posts where the worst offender is based is key.We need to replace the pale grey carpet because the furball yawns are staining it. My wife is going to put some scratchy material on the two popular steps instead of carpet.Cats will be cats except when they are gits which is most of their waking life.May you find your sister soon Helli.
