plesse enlighten me , my daughter is out of school now , but my grandchild has a habit of taking time out .Fine_time said:This may help someone, a few years back we took our child on holiday, on return we got 2 fines, one each the wife paid but not me.
First mistake was to ask the school as it was later used as evidence against me. i was told to submit the request which they knew they would decline.
The child was not mine but my partners, as i was down as next of kin and living with her i was assumed to be a guardian.
Many call their step daughters their daughter, but in a legal case such as this she may not be his 'legal' daughter.

In most cases they do not even know the laws they enforce , if you challenge them , which I have on numerous occasions , they respond by sending you to court. Yes it’s is time consuming , but not costly. Of course is a bit daunting, but the law is the law , it’s a game ,
they didn’t let me off I can assure you. And even if I could have afforded a lawyer not one would take on the case because it was against the council.
If no one makes a stand then they will walk all over us even more than they are.
"It's only £60" which to some is plenty hence why they take their kids out of school for a cheaper holiday.
It's a disgrace the way we are being dictated to.
Funny how they can take a whole class away during term time, citing education purposes.
My daughter went on a school skiing trip during term time.
I guess she could have ended up being a snow scientist.
The 'teachers' get paid to go and have a jolly good time while they are at it.

It’s simple logistics:
taking the whole class away doesn’t affect the whole group and their relative positions in the curriculum.
Individual children taking 2 weeks out come to to a host of issues trying to play catch up - and sadly some never do having missed crucial parts of their classes
I would argue that if you can afford a holiday then you can afford £60 as it’s certainly cheaper than paying school holiday prices.
There is always the option of not going on holiday - I know quite a radical suggestion in these times of “entitlement” (I haven’t had a “proper” holiday myself in over 5 years)
You KNOW the co sequence before the action so make an informed decision beforehand and don’t complain after.5 -
Anyone who thinks that teachers are having a “jolly good time” while taking a bunch of teenagers abroad, have clearly never done it themselves.Out of interest, why the inverted commas around the word teacher? Are you somehow implying that unqualified people are taking children away? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.6 -
Fine_time said:@sammyjammy. It doesn’t cost anything to defend yourself , unless like me you come out of court elated only to find they ticketed your car. 2 appeals denied for the ticket , long and short I never paid the ticket after speaking to the landowners who, told them to revoke itJust time (preparing, travelling, waiting) and travel costs.Anything over 5.2 hours on NMW and you're out of pocket.Principles are all well and good, but can be costly.
