Screwing into soffit / fascia.

We have a couple of vents that come out of our soffit. An old one has a cover that appears to have been cut down to fit solely on the soffit. I have just bought a couple of new covers and they will need screwing into the bottom of the fascia if I leave them full size.
Am I ok to screw into the bottom of the soffit? Apologies in advance if this is a simple question, but I don't want to solve a problem by creating another.

Plenty of different styles & sizes of vents at Screwfix & Toolstation.
Easy to return them if they are not the right size.
Don't overtighten the screws that you use to screw to the facia.

You can screw in but, what is the upvc attached to? Is it cement board, and does that cement board have asbestos in it?
I’d seal it like the second pic2006 LBM £28,000+ in debt.

Thanks for the responses. Jonny, the house was built late 70's and the soffits and fascias done early 2000's There is asbestos in the garage ceiling that caused a problem with traders in the past, but I would have thought it would have been raised when the UPVC was installed. Not sure how I can find out now, but I presume you are suggesting I am cautious if drilling into it. I was going to seal it like the second picture.
Once again thanks for the replies0
