Its unusual to be able to buy a car with a credit card. This may turn into very expensive car finance if you cant clear it by the end of two years and cant get any more 0% deals for your other debts.
How many other cards do you have with balances at 0% and how large are those balances?0 -
It was a money transfer, so didn't use the card itself. It worked out cheaper than the finance, a lot cheaper. We plan to sell the car after 2 years so this was the plan. I've got 3 other cards on 0%, balances between 2k - 5k. Up until this money transfer there was a new money/balance transfer every month, then made the payment for the card and they all vanished!ManyWays said:Its unusual to be able to buy a car with a credit card. The fact you have used £16k of available credit has obviously spooked the other cards and there is no way of knowing if any transfer deals will be available in future.
That said if the other cards were that concerned they would be reducing your credit limits to stop you accumulating more debt, although that could still happen I guess.
Edit to ask are your other cards part of the same banking group you made the transfer from?0 -
A bit of a mix, have 2 with Halifax and 2 with MBNA, and I know they are connected somehow. The car was bought on the MBNA one so I guess that makes sense. Barclaycard has a limit of 18k, never even used it but haven't got any offers. Have 2 with Virgin that I still get offers on, and 1 with M&S with a small balance.Phoenix72 said:The fact you have used £16k of available credit has obviously spooked the other cards and there is no way of knowing if any transfer deals will be available in future.

Yep, both Halifax and MBNA are part of the Lloyds banking group.almostthere1984 said:

Edit to ask are your other cards part of the same banking group you made the transfer from?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Available credit isn't automatically one thing or the other, CRAs say having more is good particularly if it lowers utilisationPhoenix72 said:The fact you have used £16k of available credit has obviously spooked the other cards and there is no way of knowing if any transfer deals will be available in future.
