Very - Declined my store card without stating a reason but now shows on credit report

Good morning!
Back in March I placed an order at Very.co.uk - They were running a promotion where you'd get a 20% discount on certain items if you open a store account with them.
I ordered a laptop and got a decent deal, until they phoned and said that my store card application had been declined. I asked for more information but they just said something along the lines of "We are entitled to delined applications" and refused to tell me why. I know these things sometimes work in mysterious ways but I cannot think of a single reason why they would declined the account, my rating is very good, and I have never had an account with them. I honestly believe that it was because they didn't want to honour the sale for the laptop.
I have now seen that my credit report shows an active account with "Shop Direct Finance Company LTD" that began on the day of the order. I have not opened any other account like this, so clearly this is the Very account that they said I was unable to open....
Can anyone advise what steps I can take? They have lied to me to not honour the sale, and opened an account after telling me that it was declined. This seems like misconduct to me?
Thanks!

You opened an account with Very, and you can still use it, if you pay using another payment method, debt or credit card for example.
You were declined for credit, to use with that account, the bar is pretty low with catalogue companies, so it appears they have seen something on your credit report or some other information came to light on further checking, that has resulted in a decline, its nothing more than that.
The account will remain open on your credit file until or unless you ask Very to close it for you.
The 20% reduction is never offered on electronic goods, usually clothing/foot ware and goods for the home.
I fail to see your issue, other than been peeved at not getting a cheap laptop?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Hi,Thanks for the reply. Not at all peeved about not getting the laptop, it ended up working for the better. I am peeved at Very's behaviour. They absolutely did offer 20% on electronics, which is why I placed the order. Many others ordered the laptop and got 20% off through opening the credit account as mentioned in the comments on HUKD. Perhaps they made an error for this item which is why they did not honour my order when they realised...I have tried to log in to my Very account but it appears to have been deleted - no record of my email address.I have recieved only emails in relation to the credit agreement with a £5k limit. I have had no correspondence at all regarding a store card. That doesn't sound right?I am not sure how I would ask Very to close this account as I do not have any details other than what is on my credit report, showing the account number ends "3000 0". Phone calls remain on hold and then hang up.

That link no longer works, Very don`t do store cards, only credit accounts to use on their website.
May well have been an error, put in a complaint if you feel its justified, other than that, its just one of those things.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. That is what I am asking... If my account was declined, why do I have an active account on my credit report? Clearly this isn't adding up and Very have impacted my credit score because they did not want to honour their offer.Does anyone know if this is a matter for the FCA?0

Ask Very to close the account
The FCA do not deal with customer complaintsSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

The FCA do not take individual complaints, the procedure is to complain to the business first, if you remain unsatisfied, you can then escalate to the FOS, who deal with complaints.

If you have an account showing on your credit report for Shop Direct, that is a Very credit account. It should show your credit limit, partial account number etc.I would give them another call and ask to speak to the credit department. Your account number should also be on the email they sent you with the credit limit etc.0
