Lots of Frozen Veg

Hello all,
I don't oftern ask questions but do reply and browse alot.
However, I do have a problem which I know you can help with
Its partly to do with "shopping/eating from the storecupboard/freeze" We have 1½ drawers of the freezer full of home grown veg (we have an allotment) which is great in itself  but I'm oftern wondering what to do with it all and end up buying various items to go with it. The vegetables are broad beans, runner beans and mange toute.
OH isn't keen on the "throw whatever into a pan - soup" but does like proper receipe type soups (sounds like my cooking is at fault :rotfl: which is possibly is, but he says these type of soups are abit sweet.
I want to use up what we have got first and our shopping bill is  and I know it can be bought into line with lists and meal plans etc. But I'd like to use what we have.
I have a storecupboard of flour/spice/cous cous/brown rice/pasta
We tend to have "somthing" with rice and salad, even in the winter :rotfl:
I do the cooking at the weekend and OH on a weekday. He can follow receipes :T
Thanks for any idea's

Hi Linda,
Vegbox recipes has some recipes for runner beans and a few for mange tout. As you enjoy meals with rice, could you just add them to stir-frys?
This older thread might give you some ideas for the broad beans:

you can make a lovely french type salad with a mixture of green beans/mangetout etc combined with cooked beans as i n kidney beans, broad, pinto, chick pea etc. I use also some finely chopped onion/shallot, garlic and fresh herbs , whatever you've got. Drench in vinigrette, let the vinigrette soak in overnight - lovely with rice, couscous, baked potato.....0

I'd be inclined to stick the broad beans (and possibly runner beans) in a chilli. Mangetout I'd do some kind of oriental 'meal in a bowl' soup with noodles; if you jazz it up with some water chestnuts and beansprouts and coconut milk, you might convince him it's posh0

How about cooking some of them up with spaghetti and pesto0

Thank you all,
Lots of idea's there, can't wait to start growing again.0 -
Why not use a 'packet' soup and chucks some of the veggies in that ??0

Me again. As you've probably guessed we also have a lot of frozen veg, namely runner beans and broad beans, though there are some other culprits in the freezer as well.
I don't think they taste anywhere near as nice as they did when they were fresh and normally chuck them in a couple of recipes such as a beef mince stew, but could do with a few more ideas.
Thanks in advance0 -
I've just put some braising steak in the slow cooker.
I cut it into 4 pieces to do us 2 days (there's only me and him), a load of veg, onions, mushrooms, greens, some dried fine herbs, a packet of Mr.M's minestrone soup and a pint and half of Bisto best gravy.
It'll be nice later, with mash, and if we don't fancy it tomorrow, we'll freeze it for another day.
I like to make a momlette too, with loads of greens in, and some bits of boiled bacon. I mix a tablespoon of cornflour in a drop of water to make a paste, then tip that into the egg and milkmix. And Colliers Welsh cheddar sprinkled on top.
It makes it extra fluffy and rises really well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I hate them! Apart from petit pois. I have to clear my mother' freezer, she had a penchant for frozen veg, and she seems to have lots of them. Apart from chucking them out what can I do with them? Soup? Never made it from frozen veg, what's it like? Some pack are mixed, some are peas and the rest I dont know.
Wish I could give them away to a charity0 -
nobody else likes them then either?0
