Council tax

Options
Hi below is what I have received from the council. Is this normal as I thought councils leiase with UC to get information?

Further to your claim for Council Tax Support made on 19 May 2024, your claim cannot be assessed until the following has been provided:

  1. Please provide your full Universal Credit award details (which will be available on your UC online account) for May and June 2024

Please ensure that you provide the period of the award, the award amount, and a full breakdown of any deductions that have been applied.

Comments

  • Some more knowledgeable might know, but my thinking is the Council get the bottom line, so you council want to check if there are any deductions before that bottom line

They do ask, at least this is the case in my experience. When my daughter first claimed UC my LA wanted to see her first statement and it needed to include everything.

They probably want to check for things like 3rd party deductions where so much can be paid directly to eg. your utilities suppliers (or for court fines) straight from UC.
Monies like that are still your income, it's just that UC is paying the bills (or fines) for you rather than giving you the money.

It's your responsibility to do the donkey work and provide your council with the relevant proof. CTS is the one benefit that did not merge into UC that should have done.

Your local council will only liaise with UC when it wants to check the truthfulness of your submissions
