That's correct, if you have a good seller they might refund the postage but they don't have to if they don't want to and should go down reclaiming from RM or courier to get the postage back.

Its actually a fairly unlikely arguement.

If you've got an unscrupulous seller who wants to be sticky, they will always find a reason not to refund anyway. Also, if a seller isnt playing fair when it comes to a refund, that will be reflected in their feedback, so its in the sellers interest not to monkey around. more often than not an item will be exchanged not refunded anyway.

Your example of paying £1 and £99 postage is extreme to say the least. It tends to happen on items with waifer thin margins - such as mobile phone chargers, that sort of thing, and tends to be 99p for the item, £4.00 for the postage.

If that means he doesnt have to pass on the extra fee cost to me as a buyer, then great.

Sure if we all bleat on about it enough, then ebay will include the postage when calculating the fees, then we can all pay more to sell and buy things on ebay. And unscrupulous sellers will still be unscrupulous sellers.

I thought you got the original postage cost back with a paypal dispute, just had to pay the return cost.

Well it would cause me to :mad: if I wanted a replacement and the seller wanted to charge another £4.99 postage. If he/she is selling the item for 1p and charging £4.99 postage you know the actual postage cost is going to be a lot less than £4.99.

Why would any seller be expecting you to pay ANY postage to send out a replacement? If its a faulty item you should be returning the item and getting another sent out for free - thats how it works. :rolleyes:

That's how it should work in theory, in reality many sellers try to make the buyer pay the postage. It's the same with refunds, they refund what you paid for the item not the postage because they say they paid it to the post office to send the item to you.

If you buy faulty goods you should not be out of pocket because of it, but on ebay you pay to have the item sent to you and then pay to send it back to the seller and you never get that money refunded.

What I would like, as would many people, is to pay a fair price for the item and a fair price for the postage.

well buy from the seller who offers fair postage and a fair (not the cheapest, the fairest) price for the item.

ive been watching sat navs recently and this category seems to have a few sellers who think that £25 for p&p is ok,i dont so i wont bid on it.
i will wait till i find the right one at the right price,including p&p.
on my items i try to list p&p as fairly as possible,making no or little profit from it.

I have never, ever heard of any seller suggesting that if an item is faulty, the purchaser should pay to have a replacement item sent out. :rolleyes:

And my point is, as is many peoples, would you want to see a fair price for the item and a fair price for the postage if it meant overall costing you, the buyer more, and ebay getting even more money in fees?
