It could be blossom end rot.  Possibly due to calcium deficiency. Some varieties are more susceptible than others.

I have always collected my eggshells; baked them for a little bit in the oven, ground them up, and then spooned some into my tomato pot watering tubes - I don't know if this is the solution but I don't get blossom end rot.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Tomatoes need lots of water. I'm watering mine twice a day at the moment

I also do this, not for preventing rot though... crushed egg shells sprinkled over soil are a fairly effective slug / snail deterrent.

Definitely bloosom end rot. Some varieties are more susceptible than others. I have a plum type tomato which had it and another one. They look like they're ripening early but check underneath and they are rotting.
Causes are a lack of calcium or uneven watering. Mine are probably uneven watering at formation stage. Feed once or twice a week and keep moist, don't let them dry out.

@Emmia - yes, a very good use for the eggshells!  I don't know if adding my eggshells to the tomato plants actually helps but they don't do any harm and they get used up.  It's the same with scattering the logburner wood ash around the fruit trees and fruit shrubs - recycling as much as I can back into plant growth.

  • I feed once a week and have been a bit haphazard with watering and am trying to correct it by watering every day

Just to make it more awkward - don't get them too wet :D
Go with the weather, very hot and dry water, cold and damp don't.
