cheapest car insurer 2024
i am currently trying to find the cheapest car insurance provider. almost every year i see either a new provider with lower rates trying to poach people, or a particular company keeping their rates lower than the competition. does anyone have any insight on this?

There's no single company that'll be cheaper for all drivers and vehicles all of the time, so you just need to use comparison sites each time:

cheap uses means high excess, no direct phone line etc, all app.
Found the RAC gave me everything I ever needed including price and I've been driving 38 years, admiral is probably the most expensive I e had, Hastings is cheap, but lots of restrictions cos it's cheap and it's all app based.
I like dealing with a humanChristians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )

Admiral, under £200 this year (absolutely of no use though because that's for my situation not yours)Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

That's a bit like asking what size shoes are best.4

I've been with Churchill past couple of years, found them very reasonably priced and customer service (call or WhatsApp) is great. Their auto-renewal quote was almost 60% higher, so I cancelled that.
I went to confused.com and got a new quote - Churchill came up as third cheapest (price difference with the cheapest wasn't that much), cheaper than what I was already paying to them and came back to Churchill to renew my car insurance.

Mass market consumer insurance has exceptionally thin margins and so it's a numbers game. Companies can make a strategic decision to write business at a loss in the hope of gaining market share and then at a later date step prices back up as no one can write business at a loss indefinitely.
Many new entrants will be intermediaries not insurers as there is a much lower barrier to entry and ultimately its not their money on the line if things go wrong.0 -
General Accident were excellent when I had an at fault accident in 2019. I paid £265 (+breakdown cover) with the addons for an electric car this year, despite all the doom mongers saying that electric cars are too expensive to insure.0

I paid £498 last year from M&S for my 1.6l Kia Sportage. Just got the renewal through and that's gone up to £664, a good third.
Does NCD, no claims, no points / convictions, safe work and home areas etc. actually make a difference? Every year at least £100 gets added on to the price, and pretty much every year I change provider with prices hitting a grand at times.
Cheapest I've found this year is around £550.0 -
Everything I've looked at is pretty much over £500.
I've tried editing job titles, putting myself as single (or with a partner); secure works car park during the day; live most of the time in a decent area that has practically no crime and can park on the road or on a gated driveway; only claimed once a good 10 years ago+ when someone drove into my car (drivers door dented, and positive it was my neighbour as he did exactly the same the following day after getting my car back from the garage, but he was seen as it was early afternoon) at my home address whilst I was asleep; zero convictions / points etc.
The cheaper quotes with Esure, Sheila's Wheels (same company?) etc. don't come with any key protection; NCD protection; breakdown cover etc., although maybe £10/month or so to add all those.
Companies I've been with before such as Sainsbury (neatly £1k) and Tesco (£750) are stupidly priced.
Newer drivers I work with driving a new £30k+ Merc arent paying much more than me!
My next door neighbour pays half of what I pay and she's been in a number of accidents, and had the windows smashed a couple if times due to one of her sons dodgy dealings a few years ago.
Does NCD actually have any impact? Says "you can save up to 51%", but sure it's getting completely ignored and I'm just paying for someone else.
