Hi, I'm just trying get prepared for the possibility that my son doesn't get into 6th form as he is hoping and leaves school this month. Which child element stops when a child leaves education, the higher amount for first child or the second?

Which child element stops when a child leaves education, the higher amount for first child or the second? The higher first child element applies to the oldest child on the claim (that you are claiming for), as long as they were born before 6/4/2017.As long as the second eldest child was born before 6/4/2017, they then become eligible for the higher amount if the eldest (16) YO child is removed from the claim as no longer in education. So it's the first (eldest) child on the claim, not the eldest child born unto you.

If he doesn't get into six form will he not go to college or do a different course?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "1

Lets not forget the law in England…
You can leave school on the last Friday in June if you’ll be 16 by the end of the summer holidays.
You must then do one of the following until you’re 18:
- stay in full-time education, for example at a college
- start an apprenticeship
- spend 20 hours or more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training
