I’ve been married many years and want to change my surname to my maiden name + my married surname, as my maiden name is dying out, I’m going to do it officially, do I have to change it on my marriage certificate as well as joint bank accounts, Drs, council tax , rent, named driver insurance, driving licence, premium bonds and rent? Thanks, and also would my dad have to change his will to my new name?

Don't think you have to change on marriage certificate ( although you may need to produce both for some stuff ) - not sure if you actually can ( unless you marry again! )
Yes to all the rest - ( apart from perhaps will as your name change doc will cover that ).1 -
Thank you so much DE! I’m getting a long list together of where I have to change, so that info is reassuring, also dealing with a sulking husband 😂 but I understand why he thinks I’m a traitor 🤣🤣DE_612183 said:Don't think you have to change on marriage certificate ( although you may need to produce both for some stuff ) - not sure if you actually can ( unless you marry again! )

You can make your own deed poll see - https://www.gov.uk/change-name-deed-poll/make-an-adult-deed-poll
using that you can change your name on your driving licence and with HMRC. Once you have evidence that you use that name for all purposes you can change your passport with the deed poll and evidence of use of your new name. You don’t have to change you marriage certificate.1 -
Your marriage certificate does not include your married name. Many women do not take their husbands name when they marry. While you do not need an official document to use another name you may find some institutions will only accept a change with an official deed poll.0

And how will changing your name stop your maiden name dying out ?1

I'm assuming perhaps @Mintyrose has son(s) that might take the name on. 🤔MikeJXE said:And how will changing your name stop your maiden name dying out ?0 -
I do, but he won’t be having any children, I guess it won’t stop it dying out, it’s more about reclaiming it 😂 Plus when my daughter has children I can be nana(maiden name) not nana(current surname) as it has very bad memories for our family, just wanted to know how easy it would be to change as I would want to go back to it one day , thanksmaman said:

Thank you! I’ve read all government depts take unregistered deed polls, and I’ve emailed to double check before I do anything, only argument I had was with our local electoral office, who were demanding a registered deed poll, sending them a link to their own official guidance sorted that out 😂😂sheramber said:Your marriage certificate does not include your married name. Many women do not take their husbands name when they marry. While you do not need an official document to use another name you may find some institutions will only accept a change with an official deed poll.0 -
I beleiee some banks will only change the name on sight of a registered deed poll.0
