hi
I worked full time, 37 hours, term time in a school. Sept 2023 I changed to 4 days a week, 29 and a half hours, tues wed thurs fri (fri half hr early finish). So I have Monday off. I was told by a few people when I said that Monday as my day off that they should adjust my pay to reflect losing bank holidays. I did enquire at the time, and again more recently but haven't had an answer yet. Can anyone advise? Thanks

I worked with someone who did not work Mondays and they were told it was their fault and not entitled to anything.
I also used to not work Fridays and did not receive anything extra.1 -

There is nothing special in employment law about bank holidays. The statutory minimum holiday for a full time employee is 5.6 weeks (28 days) to be taken when your employer chooses or agrees. Often this is thought of as four weeks (20 days) plus the eight bank holidays, if the firm is closed on those days, but it doesn't have to be.
So you are entitled to 5.6 of your 29 hour weeks as holidays or the hourly equivalent. So very roughly three quarters of the holiday a full time employee would get (so c. 21 days).
Assuming your firm is closed on Good Friday plus Christmas Day, Boxing day and New Years Day (and assuming they don't fall on Mondays) then that is four days the firm have instructed to take as holiday leaving you roughly 17 other days holiday,1 -
The only thing that changes is the bank holiday Mondays don't come out of your holiday allowance1

Years ago I worked as an engineer and was offered a job 4 days a week with Mondays off. 20 days holiday a year plus the 8 bank holiday.
As I wasn't working Mondays when 5 bank holidays fell then I politely pointed out this would take me under the minimum holiday. They revoked the job offer!
As a teacher work 4 days a week and NEVER have Mondays off as the time off doesn't get adjusted due to it not taking you under the minimum holiday.
My only suggestion is to ask for a Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday off instead!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)1 -

However I don't think pinkshoes would have been "under the minimum holiday" because statutory holiday for someone working 4 days a week would be 22.4 days and 20 plus the remaining 3 bank holidays would be 23 days' leave. (That is likely to be the case even where, as sometimes happens, an extra bank holiday is granted in a year. It also depends on the exact wording of the contractual term covering paid leave.) And perhaps there could be a problem if the holiday year does not begin on 1 January.2 -
I used to work part time 4 days a week tue to fri in CS. I was entitled to an apportioned amount of BH leave which was used to cover non-Monday bank holidays. If there was any left I could use it any time. Are you in a union? Hopefully they can advise.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗
