Sounds horribly expensive when you have had a cheaper option to heat the placeWobagUK said:
The gas feeds a gas fire in the living room only, more of a feature than a holistic heating method. On the electric side, we have two meters that do the job of a two rate meter with one driving storage heaters and the regular one for general use.Keep_pedalling said:Presuming you are heating with gas, why do you have a two meter system?0 -
Many old 2 meter systems for homes with electric hw and nsh can can easily be replaced by 1 smets2 meter with ALCS control (Ideally internal so a 5 port meter, but in my case an older smets1 but you do get smets2 variants - 4 port meter with its own signal output to an external contactor driving the restricted time circuits)
However it's fair to say it can be a bit more complex, and many of the suppliers still seem to be struggling with RTS replacements - the dynamic variable off peak time period variants - and some even rarer 3 tariff 3 home circuit digital and rts variations. My aunt was told she might still need 2 smart meters by SP for her arrangement - but they we're still in negotiations with meter suppliers just before last rts extension..
And found a few posts here where the typical e7 peak premium day rate vs off peak discounted rate balance seemingly was not applied.
So always worth trying to understand what you actually have wiring and tariff cost wise - and what the alternative they are offering would be.
Re comms hub
The standard UK approach is comms hub mounted on electric meter. But they can be externally mounted and powered. Just not sure I've read in uk of suppliers doing so purely for gas metering.
