Scottish power billed me but didnt tell me for 1.5 years

Found a note on my credit file for £128 linked to scottish power. It also stated 6x payments had been missed.

I called them and it turns out it was linked to an old address i lived at till december 2022.

I received a final bill and paid it on 23rd dec 2022. I had moved out by this point. Got an email back confirming they had received the payment.

So basically after speaking to them today, they claim that my email address dissapeared from my account so they couldnt inform me of the debt. (All communication had been previously done via email, including bills and receipts so no idea when my email address supposedly dissapeared).

They then sent a bill to the address i was no longer living at. And another letter was sent in august 2023.

I am very angry about this and have told them to wave this given the fact that i had no communication from them. I also asked for an email summarising whats been discussed.

Was told they cant send me an email and that i should email their customer service team who will (and i quote) "hopefully be able to help".

Really not happy with the way theyve handled this.

Im wondering if anyone can give any advice on this situation or what my options are.

Ive sent a lengthly complaint email in tho not feeling great given itll be at least a week till i get a reply. I did tell them ill be aiming to raise this with ombudsman depending on their reply.

  • Apologies forgot to add, they claim the debt is a late payment fee of £10 that has increased due the time now passed.

Id always paid my bills 29th of each month as this is when i got paid. Even though i paid the last bill on 23rd dec, they are saying it was still 4x days late tho i certainly didnt get notice about this at the time
