I didn't use Justpark for sometime but when I used it recently, I noticed that unknown fee is added to each reservation and Justpark didn't respond to my question why. I raised ticket with them and was told they will follow up, but no answer since June.

When I look for parking space, map shows me spaces at certain price, let say £3 per hour/day. Then, when I click next to payment, fee for parking is £3.49 and on top of that there's transaction fee of 0.49 and total is now £3.98.

I checked it at random location and fee of 40-60p is added to price every time and then transaction fee is added separately.

First response from Justpark was:

"I'm terribly sorry for the confusion but this happens when space owner has updated
their price list but it has not fully reflected on the website that is why the last
amount is the correct amount."

Then I said it can't be true, because this mysterious fee is added to every reservation I tried. I doubt every owner advertising on Justpark is suddenly updating price by 40-60p per reservation (regardless of total amount).

Second email said:

"I can confirm this is not another unknown fee, I will flagging this with my
technical and space owner team to have a look into this urgently to make sure it
gets sorted as soon as possible."

And after that, I didn't receive any follow up. But this unknown fee is still added to every reservation, so I'd like to know what it is or get refund for it, if they can't explain it. It might be only 50p, but if it's added to every reservation, it's making them decent money.

Did anyone else notice it? Did anyone else complain or ask about it? I did some web search, but didn't find anything about it. Maybe I used wrong keywords?

Sample here, it's totally random parking space to show the fee:

In this case, 40p was added.

Another random space, this time fee is 49p.

Typically JP take a "service fee" off the owner, I think when owners realise this they up their fee by a 50-60p to cover that - so thats why - also I'm not sure but JP show the prices in whole figures and leave out the pence.

Seems a simple question to answer - can't see why they can't...

It's not transaction fee. Look at the print screen and read my text. Price increases between clicking on the parking space and booking it on next page and transaction fee is listed separately.

It's at least false advertising, because parking space is advertised at certain price, but when you get to payment page, price is different (plus the transaction fee which has clear description).

They're not querying the transaction fee but rather why the price says £9 parking fee, but the charge when they come to pay is £9.49 PLUS the 99p transaction fee. Seems likely that the comment above from DE_612183 explains it - owner has upped price to cover the fee they are also charged

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • But if they owner upped the price, why it's not shown on the initial page? And how can the owner up the price without it being updated on initial page?
  • No, if you tick insurance it ads even more, not 40p. And then, it's listed on the total price as well.

Are JustPark just rounding the parking charge to the nearest £1? So the owner had always submitted £9.49 but this rounds to £9 which is shown on the intial page.

I do wonder if it's a rounding down on the website - I tried a few places in Cardiff and they all did the same...
