Was told it might be a vacuum pump issue I think he called it. Mind has gone blank. He didn’t want to touch it so had to hand brake it home and call someone else who hasn’t got back to me. Once I get all the proper information written down I’ll update but first mechanic said it’s a specialist job probably to be done by fords themselves0

Don’t know why but I have “wet link” or something like that going round my mind if that helps0

could it be the timing belt being a wet belt ie it runs through the oil pan for lubrication.
but after time it starts to breakdown and bits of it end up blocking the internal parts of eg the brake vacuum pump.
an example

This sounds like Fords dreaded Ecoboost/Ecoblue wet belt failure.
The timing belt that runs off the crankshaft to power the cam shaft is in oil, so is know as a wet belt or belt in oil.
Ford and a couple of other manufacturers owners have had major issues with the belt breaking down over time.
Shredded parts of the belt get into the oil system clogging up the oil pump, vacuum pump and any other small oil galley.
If this is the case the news won't good.
You could replace the timing belt and vacuum pump which won't be cheap but if the engine was starved of oil there could be serious engine damage.
Manufacturers started fitting wet bets to reduce friction which helped reduce emission but it looks like they didn't have a good understanding of belt construction and the effects oil had on it.
They have over the years improved the belt construction but always tend to blame owners using the wrong oil, not changing the oil regularly or using engine flush.

I can't help but think there was a calculation done somewhere in an office filled with lots of grey suits.
As the failure rate was expected to be a lot lot higher outside of warranty, well the decision made it's self, f**k 'em!

is it true that those that have say a Peugeot 208 and it's time to change the wet timing belt, dealers charge £1500 as the tremendous amount of work that's involved.
I could buy a half decent used car in the local ads for that price.
i did it cost £900 and I still have it 3 years later, I got rid of my newish 208Christians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )
