HyperJar - is it a con?

I signed up to HyperJar after reading about it on the (excellent!) MSE site, however my experience with them has been less than fantastic. Last week my virtual card running through Google Pay was declined repeatedly, leaving me in an embarassing situation unable to pay for my bill (yes I normally carry another card as backup but had forgotten it). Today I expected to find the promised 2% cashback for June transactions but there was nothing, a lengthy wait on their awful bot-led chat app led to someone saying i "might have qualified for cashback" but there was a problem and it might take days to look into.
Frankly I think the whole HyperJar thing is nothing more than a rip-off. Anyone know different?
P.S. One incident I perhaps should have taken more notice of was when I tried to link my Zopa account to them. That failed, and when I asked why they effectively said they wouldn't touch HyperJar with the proverbial. Maybe I should have taken heed.

This site did not think much of HyperJar:

It's a legitimate business and EMD firm. That, however, says nothing about the quality of the product.2

I too signed up for the cashback and definitely approached with caution - plenty of complaints around the forum about their customer services. It is a prepaid card rather than a proper current account/debit card and this does lead to surprises, which might include your bill embarrassment and Zopa's reluctance. Mine got declined at a pay-at-pump (which takes a £99 hold but I did have this) which was a shame. But it works the majority of the time.Things have been ok for me so far. There was a small delay in paying the June cashback but mine was paid around lunchtime yesterday. I hope yours is paid soon!I'm really enjoying the cashback on vouchers/gift cards, my Asda spend is now all done on gift cards bought from Love2Shop via Hyperjar generating 4% cashback. Sometimes things go wrong - got tripped up when the Boots vouchers could only be spent online - but I just take it as teething troubles. I'll likely keep using the vouchers after the 2% cashback offer expires.1

Maybe I should have taken heed.MSE only ever focus on rates, never the service of particular products (which varies, and is very subjective for different people). Hyperjar is not a con/scam as your title is asking, they are a legitimate company providing a legitimate service. How they are offering that service is the problem. I've not used them myself but I do recall reading people reporting they have had issues with them in the past.1 -
I personally didn't run into any major issues when I signed up for an earlier cashback offer. I had a delay with being verified which meant it took a few days. I did contact customer services to try and speed things along but I think the issue just sorted itself eventually. Beyond that no issues. Card was never declined and cashback received at the expected amount.
Not a con/scam, but have heard from others running into a few issues, but I don't think the intention is to scam in my opinion. You know the old saying about things being down to incompetence rather than malice, I think that applies here.2 -
I did their cashback offer earlier this year for 3 or 4 months and I had one day where I got rejections on the card but besides that the experience was fine. I got the cashback I largely expected. I haven't used the card much since as I see no further reason to outside maybe one or two of the company specific deals they have (theres a few restaurants you can get 10% back and stack it with 10% from airtime rewards). On the day I had those rejections I contacted support and they said everything was fine on their end, but a day after or so they sent another response saying they found the issue and fixed it. Considering it would seem this is a common issue, I would probably recommend carrying around another card if you're going to take advantage of the cashback deal and use hyperjar just incase there's a day where they had issues.I agree with others saying it isn't a scam, but their service quality isn't perfect.1

I USED them for the cashback offer at the end of last year. Made a bundle, no complaints. Don't use them anymore.0

I've used HyperJar too. Never had any issues with it either. I got random amounts of money from HyperJar which I guess would have been the cashback. Though I didn't know this at the time.No longer with them because I found their customer service/support rather lacking, though I would say download and save statements before closing the account because trying to get them after is not happening (their customer service just ignores my emails asking for them).0

Just reactivated mine after a few months. A 'scam' would be where your money disappeared or you were charged dubiously. Hyperjar just feel - like Tymit - they were run by 2 men and a dog.0
