For me it would be solid wood, not engineered, and a lightish oak.  Do not like dark floors.

We have beech, solid wood, in our hallway, laid diagonally as there were lots of walls at not quite right angles to deal with.  Has darkened a little over time, but still looks good after 36years

Thanks. Yes, a lighter oak sounds key.
My recommendation to the bod who wants this floor to go 'engineered' is simply a practical one; you still have the thick solid tactile visible layer of oak which will not wear through, but it's backed with a more-stable-than-solid lamination. They look identical, but it will move less.
I suppose there's a cache-with-a-thingy to having solid, but not worth the extra cost and risk of movement, imv.
Beech is a good hard-wearing wood, but that still sounds impressive for 36 years!

You asked for flooring that made people go ‘oooooo!’ - saw this company at Grand Designs earlier in the year, and absolutely fell in love with the Manor distressed oak, looks like something thats just been pulled out of a old church or pub. Dont think it would suit my 1990s house, but I still love it!

The Manor Dist is pretty impressive - that's the best look :-) Gulp - the price. So that's why it's distressed :-(
Realistically, if that Benchmark Oak 3030 looks as golden and lustrous in real life as it does in the pic, then it could be ideal. Well priced too - nice find, thank you :-)

They have a stand near us at Homebuilding & Renovating in Brum.   Seem like really nice people!

We have an old terrace/cottage and wanted a rustic look and chose this - https://www.floors2go.store/products/engineered/15mm-x-220mm-golden-distressed-oak/#gallery   It really helped us to see a large sample  in store, rather than a small posted sample.

If you’re looking for the golden colour, and aren’t completely set on oak, bamboo is an option too. You can get a ‘caramel’ carbonised option that is very similar to a golden oak. Very hard wearing (particularly the strand-woven) and a bit different to oak, but still a natural product (and engineered).

Oooooh! Yup, nice. Is that pic of yours, or 'catalogue'?
    Thanks.

Not at all set on oak, and I was looking for alternatives.
Bamboo has a lot going for it in terms of quality and sustainability, but isn't it a bit 'strandy' in grain pattern?
I'll check out your description, cheers.

I think you can have the flooring done in all different sized ‘strips’ from narrow, short parquet types, to really wide and really long - thats what i really liked about it.

its also worth looking at the clearance section on the site, sometimes deals come up. We aren’t anywhere close to replacing our floor yet, but when we do, we’ll definitely take a trip there.

Heres a Bamboo floor I fitted for a neighbour, excuse the frumpy suite, retired couple but 10 years on still look the same!
