MG HS Clutch failure
Looking for any advice. I have a 71 plate MG HS that I bought in December 2022, on PCP from Arnold Clark, 4 year deal.
The car was first registered in February 2022. At present there is about 33,200 miles on the clock.
3 weeks ago I was on the motorway and the car wouldn't go.over 55 miles an hour and it kept saying shift gear up to 5, when I was already in 6. The car started losing.power and I pulled.off the motorway and started ti smell.burning.to the clutch, the car then lost all drive.
My car has been in arnold clark garage for 3 weeks waiting to be looked at.
They have now.looked.and said that it is wear and tear and a cost of £1,900.
I have asked about mg warranty which om the face is 7 years, but looking.into.it says for the clutch, 2 years or 30,000 miles.
I have spoke to.3 independent mechanics who have all said that the clutch shouldn't give out that quick and that they have heard of a lot.of.problems with MG.
Has anyone any experience of this situation as I cannot understand how it can cost so much and why it has went so quick.
I've been driving for over 25 years and never experienced a clutch go in any of.my cars.
Thanks

If the gear change indicator is showing gear 5 that's because the engine was being laboured in 6th, it was too high a gear to maintain speed. Are you in the habit of driving in too high a gear because you were taught to 'get into top as soon as a possible'?
That isn't good for engine, flywheel and clutch.
You will need evidence its not wear and tear to counter what the dealership is saying.

Ah yes, the bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten!
Best thing to do is pay to have the clutch and home that the new clutch lasts until your PCP deal ends. You might be able to shop around to reduce the cost of the clutch, but you need to fit a MG part and keep the invoice for this with your other car documents.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -

That does sound like their heritage!
Over the years the owners of the MG name might have changed, seems the cars haven't.
Warranties on wearable parts like clutches will be very limited, both in time and reason.
The time frame will be short, far shorter than the main vehicle warranty.
The reason will almost certainly be for manufacturer defects and proving that would be almost impossible 99.9% of the time.0 -
