Error in missed payment

I pay my credit card, usually in full, every month on payday (the 28th) which is also the date my credit card statement comes out. Last month was no different, I check the statement is out and pay it.
When I went to check this month it stated I had a late payment charge on the account. I checked and I had paid on the 28th, like every month. When I queried this with M&S, they said I had paid before the statement was generated in their system. I said this was impossible as I wouldn’t have paid if the statement hadn’t been generated.
They refunded the late payment charge but said it was up to me to address any problems with credit agencies. Will this show up as missing a payment, as I haven’t? My score is great (if that’s even a thing).

Score isn't a thing, ignore it.
Don't pay your card on the statement date, not only are you missing out on the longer interest free period, it's also a gamble as you have seen if the statement is delayed - it was on the 28th but that was at the weekend and while the statement is backdated to that, it likely hadn't actually been produced until the Monday. Just pay by direct debit in full every month and forget about itSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Are you sure the statement had been generated? 28th of this month was a Sunday, so it's not inconceivable that it was generated on the 29th?But if they have registered it as a late payment then it'll be recorded on your credit file. The credit reference agencies won't be able to remove or alter that record, the only way it can be removed is if M&S send a notice of correction to them. However, one late payment in an otherwise well-maintained credit history is not the end of the world. It's not ideal, obviously, but it will have only a very minor effect, which will diminish over time. And your score is completely meaningless, so you can safely ignore that - it's not even visible to lenders.0

Are you sure the late payment fee referred to that payment due? The statement is usually generated 3 weeks before the payment due date, so even if there was a few days either way on the statement date, you still wouldn't be late. That statement can surely only talk about an earlier late payment?0

You are dealing with an ignorant fool if they really told you to address any problems with the CRAsuperc said:I pay my credit card, usually in full, every month on payday (the 28th) which is also the date my credit card statement comes out. Therefore you should assume everything they are telling you is probably also nonsense and I would raise a formal complaint0 -
Yes, I always check. It said 28th June, it was anew statement and I paid on 28th June, despite me being paid on the Friday due to the 28th being a Sunday. Surely being a Sunday is neither here nor there, I shouldn’t be penalised for their systems being a day late. The statement was generated and said ‘28th June’. To the other poster yes the due date isn’t for a few weeks but I like to just get it paid. That payment went down as May’s payment.CliveOfIndia said:Are you sure the statement had been generated? 28th of this month was a Sunday, so it's not inconceivable that it was generated on the 29th?But if they have registered it as a late payment then it'll be recorded on your credit file. I don't think it's ignorance - I believe that it's not uncommon for card providers to agree to modest goodwill gestures but without accepting any liability to correct data supplied to CRAs, if they don't agree that it's factually inaccurate, i.e. 'we don't think we've done anything wrong but here's a few quid to go away'?Jumblebumble said:

If OP continues to assert that it is factually inaccurate to classify it as a missed payment then that's a slightly different issue, and one that probably would need to be handled as a complaint....0 -
Thanks. The statement date says 28th. There is a payment for the balance on the 28th.eskbanker said:
