Free loft insulation

Hiya,

My elderly Dad has a loft installer coming around next week to fit insulation to his loft (after a cold caller doing a survey), apparently it's completely free under the Great British Insulation scheme.
Dad was told he wouldn't need to pay anything as the company collects money from the council.
Company looks valid according to business card / website etc.
My Dad is actually eligible for free insulation according to the gov website.
However I reckon this is a scam and they'll try to rip him off.
Has anyone been thru this process?

I'm interested re how the payments/ grant scheme works.
Thx.

Its not always free, it depends what group he falsl into. There is the low income group and the general group. Its not free if you are in the general group.

Thx, he's an OAP but not on any benefit. Gov website says he may need to contribute £1-5k.
  • Best bet is to be there when they come and ensure it really is free before they start.

It's completely free!! Just pay this admin charge of £1000 for £259 of completely free insulation.

As above you 100% need to find out what the insulation actually is before going ahead ( apart from the money bit)
If it is laying fibrewool or similar along the floor of the roof between the joists, then this is a good thing, especially if thick enough.
If it is spray foam, typically sprayed on the underside of the roof itself, this is a potential disaster. ( google it)
