Buyagift... rights

We recently stayed in a yurt booked through buyagift. The door to the yurt did not shut, and the owners were unable to do anything about it, so we so we stayed in a hotel nearby. We complained to the yurt owners (both duing our stay and by email afterwards), but they are unwilling to accept any responsibility. We therefore took it up with buyagift, but they are saying this is something we need to take up with the supplier. It feels like our contract would be with buyagift, as we purchased the voucher through them, but I'm not too sure. Can anyone out there help!? :-)

What was the discussion that you had with the owners in between informing them that the door didn’t close and decamping to a hotel? What alternatives were offered and who paid for the hotel?
How did you pay buyagift or was it a present and vouchers bought for you by someone else? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Their terms won't load for me but I assume they are an agent and the contract for the accommodation is with the yurt owners which means the yurt owners should refund you with a voucher and (if that voucher was specifically for the yurt owners rather than anything on buyagift) buyagift should then refund you for the voucher.
Did you pay by credit card OP and if so how much per night for the stay?
If not I'd send a letter before action to the yurt owners either for the cost of the stay in the yurt or for the cost of the hotel (depending upon how it compared, obviously if you paid £100 a night for yurt and then stayed in a £1000 a night hotel you aren't due £1000).
There is also loss of enjoyment to consider, do you holiday often, why did you pick a yurt, did staying in a hotel instead spoil your overall enjoyment of the occasion? In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
You bought a voucher and Buyagift supplied a voucher. Your contract with Buyagift was for a voucher.
You then bokked a stay with a third paty. Your contract for the say os woth that party.
What options did the yurt owner give you?
Who suggested staying in the hotel and who paid for it?

There’s an awful lot of presumption here. We don’t know enough of the facts to be able advise what to do.Their terms won't load for me but I assume they are an agent and the contract for the accommodation is with the yurt owners which means the yurt owners should refund you with a voucher and (if that voucher was specifically for the yurt owners rather than anything on buyagift) buyagift should then refund you for the voucher.

Indeed, I should have added, presuming the reason for not staying in the yurt was justifiable.PHK said:
