Insurance coverage

Hi Good Morning, actually me and my wife traveling to Mount Kailash which is in Tibet, China vie Nepal, I have Halifax  account travel insurance cover, we will have to travel quite high altitude area, do you think we have to buy another insurance cover? I can not see that mention of traveling to high altitude area.

    If you are going there to climb mountains you may need some specialist cover anyway.

    Above is your policy book, Travel starts on page 60.  

    They cover trekking/hiking up to 4,000m if DIY, up to 6,000m if a professionally organised and not above 6,000m.

    Mount Kailash is 6,600m so it depends how far up you are going etc.

    How wonderful for you both.

    I can't do it, as I have a pacemaker and wouldn't be able to get insurance for that high altitude. Plus I have never been fit enough to do a big trek. 


    I have had at the back of my mind perhaps trying to visit a neighbouring area to Tibet, which might have lower altitudes than Tibet itself. (My policy covers up to a max of 3,000 meters.) 


    Incidentally, I managed that altitude-restriction issue perfectly this year in India: Kinnaur District. The beautiful village of Kalpa is at 2,950 meters and one has splendid views of Kinner-Kailash Mountain. (Photos below.)
