your mistake appears to be using the wrong weight of hammer
as suggested above a sledgehammer will split the block, no need to chisel it, and certainly never using a wood chisel0 -
This is Alice and her daughter. Are you suggesting that they man up?Bookworm105 said:your mistake appears to be using the wrong weight of hammer

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?3 -

Not impressed by fibreglass handles on hammers or axes - They keep breaking in my hands. Decent wooden handles last a lifetime, and I wouldn't bother with anything else.GDB2222 said: You'll need a club hammer, too.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
Most neighbors will probably have something suitable in their garage. Can't you make a couple of enquiries rather than buying new tools that may only see one use? (This is MSE after all)
• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.0 -

Bear in mind that to dispose of rocks and similar at the tip may cost £'sI dumped a small pile of rocks a few years ago and it cost me £2.50 !
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.0 -
Hampshire centres no longer charge, but each home has an allowance.
Regardless of your tools, make sure you are wearing eye protection as a minimum.4 -

The bin men won't thank you for breaking the truck, and you could find yourself with some expensive troubles. Even breaking in to smaller pieces will not win yourself any favours. The correct way to dispose of it is via the local council recycling/waste disposal centre.

My suggestion is to use an electric drill and masonry bits, if you have them. Drill a few holes in a line, then chisel or drive in a wedge at that point. Then repeat to break it down slowly.
The same method used to split granite rocks.
