Entitled to a full refund or not

Hey quick question. If I purchased an iron off Tefal for £250 9 weeks ago and it constantly spits out dirty brown water on my clothes and there’s a crack on the base (not where water comes from) should I demand a full refund? I believe this is not fit for purpose as cheaply made. I had another tefal iron (generator) for 7 years until I gave it away to a family member and never had an issue.
Tefal wants to get a courier to collect mine. Keep for minimum 10 days to repair. Not happy with this. They will give me a ‘basic’ iron to use for the duration.

You don't have the right to a full refund yet as you've had the product for over 30 days.  You need to give Tefal the opportunity to repair/replace the item.  It sounds very fair that Tefal are giving you a basic iron to use whilst yours is in for repair.
I assume this crack on the base was not there when you purchased the item 9 weeks ago.  Perhaps something happened to it which is responsible for the crack and also the dirty brown water?

No, as you don't have a legal right to one as has been explained above.

You can ask the nicely for a refund and who knows, they might surprise you!

I assume you bought the iron direct from Tefal? If not then your legal rights are against whoever you bought it from.
  • Sorry can’t work our how to reply individually.  :/ I did not contact them 9 weeks ago as it’s only just started to spit out dirty water and while inspecting the iron I noted the crack. I suppose I’ll have to go with the repair and see what happens. Thank you all

The problem you will have is trying to prove the fault was there when you bought it - and not something that has happened whilst in your possession - if you get a free repair I'd take that as a win.
