electric cookers

Options
Hi, were replacing our kitching soon and have been looking at cookers.
Are the modern electric cookers any good?
We've provisionally been sold a elecrolux eou43002x but were wondering if it's worth going for a gas one instead.
cheers
Dan

Modern electric fan ovens are more efficient & cost effective than gas ovens nowadays and the popular choice for many people is dual fuel with gas hob & electric fan oven.

Sourcing your appliances yourself rather than getting them from the kitchen supply company will usually save you a tidy sum.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

If your replacing an existing gas oven with electric make sure you have a suitable electric point otherwise you may need to lay a new cable between the kitchen and fuseboard.

    .

Do you ever see any bargains on there, Cattie?

Whenever I've looked, the £$£$ always seems so NON Moneysaving, when you consider the effort to get it & the fact it's already broken & fixed maybe, or damaged by someone else!

Think I'd rather shop around & have a new one.

    Then scratch it my:confused: self!!

electric or gas is down to personal choice, having lived in a number of rental properties, i have used a number of ovens (both gas and electric). on moving in to my own house and having to buy an oven gas was the only choice for me - i grew up with electric and learned to cook with an electric oven but of all the ovens i have cooked on over the years (quite a few) my favorites have always been the gas ones!! the main reason being the heating time - no waiting for oven to preheat.
it really is personal choice if you currently use electric and are happy with it why change, but if you find it limiting you may consider a change to gas. new ovens are a major investment, you buy one and expect it to last a long time, just make sure you buy somthing that will work for you.

In my old home I had an electric fan oven and gas hob but now in my flat I just have electric although the oven is fan one. I just hate the electric hotplates they are cack and don't cool down quickly like gas plus I have burnt holes in the bottom of my saucepans...grrr. Guess I am just dumb.

if you are planning a built in oven and seperate hob then this dual fuel version may be an option, its what my mum has and is enough for her needs.

  • thanks for your replys, has settled my nerves about electric ovens.
All the ones I've used have been the early ones and have been a disapointment.
We will have a gas hob as both me and the wife don't like electric hobs.
kimevans: All I have listed is "Elux EOU43002x SS BU DBL Ovn (inspire)" so I assume it's a inspire rather than a insight one. Will look to see what the difference is.

I did manage to buy a Neff oven & save around £150 on the shop price. Oven was supposed to have small scratch on the oven door handle, but was pristine when it arrived with all packaging completely intact, so my experience was very favorable. It came with the full 2 year Neff quarantee too.

Also they contacted via phone for delivery & were very flexible & I got a Saturday delivery with no problem.:D

However, I will admit that now the site is becoming more well known the bargains are getting harder to nab.
