I planted a beech hedge three years ago. It grew well and I did a bit of pruning this spring to aim for the shape and size I want. Since then - nothing. No new shoots, no growth of any description. What have I done wrong?!

Is it still alive? Any leaves at all?
    How tall is it?
Is it dry at the roots? Have you watered it?
    Got a photo?

When in the spring?  Were the leaves already open or was it prior to that?

I'd take a close look and see if there are any buds inside the bush, basically in the bits you didn't prune.  Also if there's few/no leaves check the branches.  Are they springy/flexible?  Or snap dry?  If the first there may be a chance of it reviving but snap dry would tell me that branch is dead.

Late summer/early autumn is the time to prune Beech.
Someone opposite me did it too early this year and it's sulking.
Not sure if that's the same for young plants.
They are late to produce those lovely bright green young leaves.

How dense a plant were they before you pruned?
3yrs sounds a bit soon to trim to shape. I;m just guessing but I wonder if you went in too hard.

You could try a high nitrogen feed to get some leaf going. Nettles soaked in water is good.

    So any buds?
scrape at the bark on the twigs and see if it's green under. If it is they are alive and will eventually produce leaf.
