Doubled home insurance quote

Hi, I got an excellent renewel quote from our current home insurance provider, less than half of the quotes from other providers I tried using the trusty MSE comparison methods.  I messaged them to say I'd like to renew and add insurance for a separate annexe we've had built and my new quote is nearly 3 times the original.  They said I can't insure the detached annexe separately.  They eventually brought the quote to double the original.  Adding the annexe has apparently increased our dwelling to 5 bedroom, 4 bathrooms which carries greater risk according to them. Any thoughts on how I can avoid this astronomical price rise gratefully accepted.  So cross that I was honest!  I'm happy to pay 2 separate insurances for the two dwellings and do want to insure the annexe, obviously.  Help!

Other than when a claim happened and they found the property didnt match your declaration they'd have been able to potentially void the policy and avoid any claim based on a deliberate false declaration or reckless failing to update them. If you want insurance that actually pays out rather than just a certificate to show people then you have to declare it correctly.

If its double the price and the others were quoting more than double the price then clearly its still a good price. Certainly 4 baths is not going to be liked by those doing room rating due to escape of water claims.
