wireless printer problem

I have a strange problem with my new wireless Lexmark X4580 printer.

I bought the printer yesterday and have been trying since last night to solve the following problem.

I can add the printer to my wireless network just fine (through a D-link G604T router).

The problem i have is that my internet doesn't work once the printer is installed.

I am very technically minded, have tried alsorts of settings and each and every time I have to restart my router from scratch just to get the internet to work.
I have searched the net for what seems like forever to find a solution to the problem but it seems to be i am one of a kind!

Lexmark tech support is closed, but i have sent an email, but i am very tempted to take it back to the shop and get a exchange on the unit

Can anyone help before I resort to the exchange?

What do you mean "Internet doesnt work" does the router still sync and connect??? or is it just the computer that cant get internet access??

the internet connection just drops and i get the famous 'page not found'

when i go into my router sometimes it says the net is still connected, other times it doesn't.

it has really confused me and i am just out of ideas.

it is as if the printer is somehow conflicting with the net connection.

I'd also like to add that I have tried the installation on both my desktop which runs XP and my new laptop which runs Vista premium
  • the words 'wireless' and 'printing' have never gone together well. I'd consider taking it back.

Just a thought - have you released and renewed the DHCP licence? This often solves the 'pagenotfound' error for me

    Yep, I have tried that.
    thanks for the suggestion though.

I have read and re-read so many reviews about this printer today and not one person seems to have had the same problem as me.

Have tried installing with and without firewalls and other security settings to no avail.

Plus, I can't think of why the net would not work when the printer does
  • is the IP address of the printer affecting things. Not sure what i mean really. Networking has never been a strong point of mine. Do Lexmark have a forum/help support email address you could get more help from?

  • I have exactly the same problem you (cymru78) describe. Like you I searched the web and have tried various solutions.

Lexmark helpdesk say it is because the printer is on an ad-hoc network(!) rather than an 'infrastructure' network; however when I print out the settings from the printer it shows as being an infrastructure network. Thus I am still searching for a solution, so any suggestions are welcome.

  • Hi all,

The problem lies with the DNS settings. Full diagnostic and solution are available at http://www.deviantforums.com/wireless-printer-knocks-t31934.html?p=260135

Having tested the solution, I then reinstalled all the software on the CD - that is when I noticed that despite reporting that it had correctly installed previously, it actually needed an internet connection after testing the printer and only now did that part of the set up complete successfully.

    Hope this helps,action-smiley-033.gif
