Co-Op wrong type of account opened

Options
I applied for a Co-Op Everyday Extra account, with a view to getting the switch cash from their current offer. I have another account ready to switch in to this one. It wasn't approved instantly, but after a few days I got an email that they are opening my account. Now that I have access though, it looks like they gave me a bog standard free current account instead of an Everyday Extra.

Any guesses if I can swap this back to Everyday Extra through the promo link in my online banking, and if doing that will invalidate the account number and debit card they already sent and mean waiting again for new ones?

If you applied for an Everyday Extra but weren't given one, then that presumably means that they weren't prepared to open one for you (hence offering the inferior product instead), so IMHO they're unlikely to change their minds second time round?

You could just wait for the reward then try to upgrade to the Extra account.

I received this when I switched so you may find it is updated in a few days

If you've applied for an Everyday Extra account:

You'll receive a welcome email to let you know when your account is open, including your new sort code and account number. However, your insurance won't be active at that point.

Following the welcome email, your account will be automatically upgraded to an Everyday Extra account. We will write to you to confirm the upgrade has happened and that your insurance benefits are active.

If you log in to online/mobile banking prior to receiving the upgrade confirmation letter, and your account name is showing as Everyday Extra, you can also be assured your cover has begun.

    Thanks,
    The Co-operative Bank

It might just be a mistake because there shouldn’t be a reason why they wouldn’t take your monthly £15 if they are happy to have you as a current account customer, which obviously they are.

It would definitely be worth asking whether there’s been an oversight

From memory it takes a few days from when you get accepted for the account until the rewards get applied. I'd be following up if nothing has happened in a few days.

As for upgrading/downgrading between different types of accounts, I don't have any direct experience with Co-Op in this regard but most banks will keep the same account and debit card details. I wouldn't expect new cards to be issued, etc.
