My Lenovo ThinkPad laptop is over 10 years old and just stopped charging would that mean battery gone or charging cable faulty?

If it does the charger is fine.Signs of a defective battery may include it never going above 0% on the scale of charged no matter how long its plugged in for.You may want to check if the charging pin/plug is broken on the laptop. if it is then it doesn't matter what state the battery or the charger is in.1

It's most likely the battery. You can get software which you can run to test the health of the battery
