Replacing Gas Fire

Comments

  • 1. Gas fires, while cheap to run, can be extremely inefficient with respect to heat output to the room, depending on type.
    2. Electric fires, while expensive to run, are much more efficient.
    3. So you can't directly compare gas and electric heating on input kW alone.
    4. If you are only using it to "top up" heat from central heating.
    5. Unless your room is enormous or really badly insulated, I'd be surprised if 2kW additional heat weren't enough.  Why not buy a cheap electric heater, something like Toolstation 77317 and see how it works out.  If it provides adequate heat, get something better looking at the same rating.

Which is why most quotes and comparisons list output kW, not input.
