Nationwide FlexPlus for 1 month

Hi,
we are currently in the final stages of planning our holiday to the USA with my mum who's 64 years old.
She doesn't have a travel insurance yet and they are quite expenses now for her. I thought she may be able to sign up with Nationwide FlexPlus for a month and then downgrade, after we come back from the USA. That way she would only pay the monthly fee once.
Any thoughts or issues that could happen with this strategy or any other suggestions would be welcome.
Many thanks

Used to be that the basic cover only extended to European destinations. No idea if this is still the case.1

There's no minimum term, but you're relying on Nationwide to approve the application/allow the upgrade and downgrade (I suspect they will, but probably worth having a back up plan).Typically you're advised to ensure you have travel insurance as soon as you book, in case of something happening which prevents you from being able to go away; but if you're wanting cover while you're away, and there's no pre-existing conditions to declare, you might be able to do it.0

If its now expesnive for her due to risk - medical conditions etc - then these packages often don't cover the risk and you have to pay extra on top of the basic cover they offer. My bank tried that, and the extra worked out more than I could buy separate insurance for!1

No, we thought it just be cheaper. 13 Pounds vs 70 pounds. No prexisting conditions. We havent booked anything yet, but will do so soon.
Thanks for the comments.0 -

Thanks for the comments.
It is not just 13 pounds though. You would need cancellation cover, so would have to pay the monthly fee right from booking up until the return date. And it is usual with this type of cover that if you make a claim you have to keep the 'packaged' account for a full year.

I've put the link on because Aviva are A LOT nosier, a lot of the questions are "have you EVER....", as opposed to N/W current provider which was limited to declaring pre existing ongoing medical issue & anything 'new' in the past 12 months, other companies want past 2 years, none seem to want "ever" except Aviva!
As she's still a non customer of N/W, the quote will be valid for 30 days.
The bottom of the link doesn't seem to say there will be a cancellation charge, but she will have to close the account. You should insure as soon as you book, Martin Lewis is constantly ramming home that point! But it's your choice, in the grand scheme of things won't a few payments of £13 be a drop in the ocean compared to the whole cost of the holiday, better safe than sorry.
Have a great trip.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0
