ever asked a store for refund policy?

Options
i have always been very vigalant when buying clothes and goods for rules on returns both checking the signs in store and my recepit- here is my experiences in two seperate shopping experinences

nv clothes store on royal ave. belfast- bought two dresses in sales, when at counter checked with assistant about returns policy, who informed me items could be refunded if not suitable, noticed sign behind counter which said "sale items can only be exchanged for store credit or other items", said to assistant, " these are sale items so does that sign apply?" assistant" no, thats an old sign that doesnt apply anymore" and prints off receipt open which it says the same as the sign, which i queried with the assistant "oh thats an old recepit from last season- we are waiting to get them changed" i said" fair enough, but the recepit i have as my proof of purchase in case i may want to return these items isnt proof that i can return the goods if needs be- the recepit doesnt back up what you are saying the returns policy is" she offered to get her manager who indeed said the assistant is indeed correct and signed my recepit to say items can be returned

was so angry- all i wanted was to make sure i was aware of their returns policy and both mananger and assistant were so defensive!!!

  • well you would have got a little defensive I guess if repeatedly asked the same thing by someone hinting at you not telling the truth...

In my experience, there seems to be quite a number of shop staff who just dont care too much and will say 'whatever' they think a situation warrants. It's not the first time I've had a situation where I've been told something that's turned out to be completely wrong, either through ignorance of the correct facts or just couldn't really care less.

I think maybe temporary Xmas staff are worst for this kind of thing as they know the job is just a gap filler for them and they dont invest too much into it? Having said that, I know of 2 young girls who are more organised and good at their (temporary) jobs than people twice their age who have done the same job for the last 10 years.

Anyway, I now do the same as the OP...I always do all I can to make sure all facts are right......I just dont trust people to always be acccurate now.

i would also have been quite defensive if i tried to return the goods to be informed of the info on the receipt and what it says on the signs.... the "correct info" was only given to be verbally-wat i was being advised of verbally should also be reflected on the recepit/sign on the wall

Remembering back to my law lessons....

A current returns policy must be shown at the point of sale to allow the purchases to make an offer based on it. A reciept is given after the sale contract is formed and therefore anything on it is purely for information.

In the circs I would be reluctant to trust what im told as its not on the sign.
