Samsung colour laser printer - model Xpress C430W - suddenly stopped working.

I have had this printer for several years, purchasing it from John Lewis in 2015.
Once the original toner cartridges were empty I started using cartridges from Cartridge People and have continued to do so without problem - until now.
In November 2017 HP acquired Samsung's printer business.
Just after Easter this year, following a Windows update, my printer stopped working with a message about unsupported ink cartridges. I have been unable to use my printer since then.
Whilst I understand that HP wants to protect their investment, it strikes me as wrong that HP can impose a restriction on a printer which never ever was an HP product. I bought a Samsung product long before HP became involved but HP have now decided how I should use the thing.
I see that the August issue of Which? magazine has an article on pages 18 and 19 about 'HP's Worsening Ink Blocking Practices' but it doesn't mention the fact that thousands of Samsung printers will be rendered useless if they try to use third party ink. In fact, that Which? article doesn't mention Samsung at all.

I very much doubt the Widows Update had anything to do with it.I suspect its more likely a firmware update that's happened, which just highlights why you don't do these unless you really have to, as it tends to nobble printers with compatible ink/toner.As for " it strikes me as wrong that HP can impose a restriction on a printer which never ever was an HP product." - well HP bought the business and the intellectual rights (and I believe the staff and associated resources) so basically everything and then so more - so now they can do what they like with that.0

Not sure if you are looking for a solution or just having a moan but anyways.
Me and Google are not aware of any hacks that will allow you to continue to use third-party cartridges in your printer.
HP are not going to revert their policy of bricking printers that don't use their cartridges unless forced to do so by legislation - don't hold your breath - it's the sort of thing the EU is quite good at but.....
The difference in price between compatibles/HP at Cartridge People is £120 vs £160, not insignificant but probably worth paying to keep a printer that you have been using for ~10 years functioning.0
