Insurance when you rent out your whole house but live there 50 per cent of the time...

I have really found it hard to find insurance if you want to rent your house out for half the time (or thereabouts) as I can stay with my partner.  The only insurer I can find to do this is PIKL who cover well for everything but quite expensive.
I am sure other people must do this, any other companies that anyone knows?

Its not clear what you want to do? Rent your house out for six months and then move back in?  What if tenants don't leave?

Get a policy to cover you renting your home for the 6 months you live with your partner.  Then when the tenants move out and you move back home, you can cancel your insurance policy and get a pro-rata refund.  You can then get an insurance policy to cover you living there

Are you talking about a single six month tenancy, or week by week holiday lets in high season ?

Editted to add that I'm going to ask that this be moved to a more appropriate board (Insurance)
  • I rent it on a short term basis and I live there in between. Rentals so it could be revered for a week? I live there for a week, then it’s rented again etc. so I just stay there when there are no guests.

I would suggest you try an insurance broker as this will need specialist cover, standard high street insurers won’t provide cover.  It will be more expensive than standard insurance as having lots of different people renting your property will be high risk and the cost of insurance will reflect that.

Why do you stay there on weeks without a guest? Seems a bit odd that your living arrangements are being driven by others.

I'd be speaking to brokers/intermedaries that offer Holiday Home insurance which is intended for those that have a second home and use it sometimes themselves and is either empty or rented to others at other times.
