Divorce / Finance Agreement

I have been divorced now for a few years and it was an amicable split.  Property was sold and profits split without the need for solicitors etc.

I have been advised that I need a "clean break" agreement or something similar to avoid my ex-husband being able to claim anything from me in the future e.g. a portion of inheritance

Is this correct?  and if so, how do I go about getting this as my divorce was finalised several years ago?

Many Thanks

Correct speak to a family law solicitor. You need to obtain a financial consent order.

If you are still in touch with your ex and he is happy to apply for the consent order and you agree the asset split, then you can employ a company called amicable to apply for the consent order for you.

You can get solicitor advice separately for each of you if you want advice on what is a fair spilt but they are expensive and each person needs their own solicitor.  You can get assisted consent order application with amicable, who will allocate you with a specialist that can advice you on whether your agreement is likely to be accepted by the court.

And yes, without the consent order, your ex will continue to have a claim on your assets.
