Crater said:We "joined" the Motoring Club a couple of days ago as the offers looked fair. However we then found several things that WE WERE NOT TOLD IN THE STORE at the time. The Club auto-renews. You can't "select" for that, it just does. There is no clear contact in the terms and conditions for cancellation. They do not give a phone number. (You can find phone numbers on Google. We are hearing that the phone team try and pass you on to the website.) You have to create a long-in and go via that, and then I am hearing that there is only Chat, and they won't deal with it and try and pass you on. IF you have made a purchase (and of course, we were offered this because we were making a purchase) then there is no "cooling off" period, and you can't cancel the autorenew until a year has passed.Having added up the payment taken and discounts, Halfords are still £5 in hand on the transaction.I don't mind that, and their actual services are usually OK (bearing in mind that they now have almost a monopoly in the UK)But I do mind being put on auto-renew without my authorisation and with out being warned.I would be interested to hear from anyone who has cancelled after the first year, and how they did it ...0

I just saw this same problem on Trustpilot. They'd been trying to leave for 3 years! Can you not take it to the FCA or Ombudsman?0

You can ask your bank to stop payments & they have too. But that does not cancel the contract with Halfords. Meaning that they could go legal & chase for the money owed.
Odds on doing that is any ones guess.Life in the slow lane0 -
I had a recent experience I was a member of the club took my 2007 Ford Focus for a MOT , told me a list of things including the car is overheating which I knew was not , they did not even complete the MOT listing the car dangerous to drive due to overheating I had my wife's nephew checked it out he said this car is running fine he checked the heating system no problems it was not overheating, I took to the car to another shop they replaced the brake pads serviced the calipers car is now has its MOT
The Halford 4.99 club is scam it lure's people into the free MOT then really your at their mercy I called Halford's Customer Service told them the story they cancelled the club ,
It's disappointing that this nonsense still goes on, I've been driving over 40 years I know when a car overheats its not rocket science ,
Stay away like the plague from the Halford Auto Club yes the free MOT is great esp in these times when money is tight but in my case this particular Halford's looks like they have good scam going on maybe others do also0
