Replacing gas hob help please

Hi

I want to replace my gas hob and I’ve seen one for a great price. My question is do the knobs need to be in the same location on the new hob ? Because they are currently on the right hand side of the square and the new one has them on the front of the square. Thanks in advance

No, the knobs can go anywhere.
What is of most importance is the worktop hole cutout - you can increase the size of this, but not easy decrease (without serious mods).
So, make and model of current hob please? If you look up the installation instructions on-line, they should give you accurate measurements for the cutout size. Then compare these with any hob you hope to buy.
Bear in mind that if you go for a hob that requires a larger hole, even slightly so, you might need a 'kitchen fitter/handyperson/joiner' in addition to the GasSafe (which you absolutely need).

One other thing I'd plant in yer mind, if I may - if your current hob is the standard 600mm wide type, give some thought to going wider, say 750mm. Provided it will work in your kitchen - enough wall unit height clearance etc. If you do a lot of cooking, especially for a family, the extra size - and often extra burner - can be a boon. And it just looks sooo much classier
You can pick up some bargains on t'Bay.

700 and 750mm gas hobs are 'only' around £130 upwards, and you'll find them sooo much nicer, and more roomy, to use. MIL had one fitted when she revamped her kitchen with new tops. The existing 600mm hood was retained, and worked perfectly well - the larger hob is only a couple of inches more each side. But, wow, what a difference - not only in use, but in appearance.
This is just a 'thought' of course, and would need a worktop mod, so it's your call to make.

Except at the back. You can't be reaching over a roaring fire to turn the gas off.

@billiepiper14 If you have a suitable electricity supply, have you thought about an induction hob - Just like cooking on gas, but without the mess. Hob is dead easy to clean, and food doesn't seem to get burnt on to the pan like it does with gas or conventional electric hobs. No naked flames that could start a fire either.

Regardless of size, cheaper gas hobs tend to look 'cheap'. More difficult to clean ( more edges for food to get stuck in ) and with thinner enamel pan supports.
A more expensive one will have a smoother base and cast iron pan supports. eg

You can also get ones with glass bases, but I felt a bit nervous about those. ( cracking them )

We installed an AEG HG795840NB hob with a glass base in 2016 and we have had no issues.

    So far anyway.

It is used most days. It is easy to clean. Apart from some slight and unimportant greying or discolouration of the pan supports it still looks more or less new.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

You'd think so, and that's often the case. But this looks pretty darned hot to me: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/315418595793
    Similar in SS if preferred.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that you do need to be a bit careful when installing a wider hob into an existing kitchen, regarding potential issues with heat affecting any wall cupboards above. You might want to consider this.

Yes, but going up to just 700 or 750 should be fine - it was for mil's.
