Exact Cash Withdrawal at Post Office

Probably obvious to many but had never occurred to me before.  But at a post office you can withdraw an exact amount from the counter.  Whereas at any cash point in said post office, depending on set up you can only with draw in denominations of £5 or £10. Handy for change for things like paying the window cleaner and saves a trip into town when the banks are open.
Thought good to share even with those who already realised
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

I often do it - need £4 to pay for a U3a session, but take out £4.36 because it sets my balance to a complete £ (or 2).  U3a is the ONLY thing I now have to pay for in cash.  Hopefully they will catch up soon!  My window cleaner gets paid online.

Dont know where your post office is nor the size of its queues but personally back when I used to deal with cash (namely the window cleaner) I would take out enough cash to cover several payments at which point the number became round anyway so avoided the trip to a post office and either the moderate queue at our local office that isn't very local or a long queue in the one near the office.

There will always be a consideration of how much your personal time is worth. The mother-in-law spends a whole day doing the weekly shop as she tours the supermarkets to find the best price for each item then goes back to each of them to buy the items cheapest there, she says she saves $20 a week. Personally for $20 I'd rather a 1hr delivery slot and have my weekend free from visiting supermarkets.

Reminds me of my grandfather, who'd drive around for hours looking for the cheapest petrol...

You don't need to force the issue with obscure amounts - you can just ask for the coins you actually want. I often ask for a tenner in pound coins for example.
