No claims proof when cancelling insurance

Due to a change in car I may need to cancely current insurance and take out new insurance on the new car with a different company (due to price). I'm just wondering how this works logistically.

I know you can only use your NCB on one car/insurance at one time. Would this work?
1. Cancel current policy so it expires 1st August 23:59 (my current car will be sold by then)
2. Take out new policy on the new car starting 2nd August 0:00 (will be picking the car up later that day)

Where I'm confused is what NCB proof I supply to the new company. As I will be cancelling the current policy mid term I will not get an extra years NCB for that so should I just use the NCB proof that I used when I took out my current policy? The number of years NCB will be the same and due to when the current policy will be cancelled from and the new one starting the next day, the NCB won't be in use on 2 policies at the same time.

Cancel policy as soon as you sell car, have new policy start on the 2nd Aug.
You will use the same NCD as for current policy (as long as no claims)

Thanks for confirming. I wasn't sure if there'd be an issue as I'd be purchasing the new policy whilst I still have the old one (although the old and new would never be in effect at the same time, so the NCB would only ever be used on one policy at a time - even though I may need to provide it to the new insurer as proof before the 1st August)

Technically proof of no claims needs to come from the most recent policy.
To confirm it is still valid
Get your current insurer to issue 2 years as of the end of the policy

I assume you have factored in the cancellation cost in the overall price comparison.

Well these days there is also the MIB's NCD database but not all subscribe to it.

Typically it depends on how long the in force policy has been so, in the good old days if it was a few weeks or a couple of months most companies would just give you back your original proof of NCD rather than reissue a new one and restart the 2/3 year clock whereas if you were months into the policy they'd issue their own proof of NCD.
