Shouldn’t stop you moving in with her, but it would probably stop you from being added to the tenancy. What are you planning to do with your flat??All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Why does she not move in with you and she gives back the social housing flat for someone else?1

I would imagine that if she has been given a three bedroom social housing house that there are at least two children living with her.... ?Schwarzwald said:Why does she not move in with you and she gives back the social housing flat for someone else?2 -
Does either of you claim any means tested benefits? If you do then owning a property you don't live in can affect those benefits, if the capital in that property is more than £16,000.Pauls1404 said:Hi I hope someone can help me , my partner has been put into a 3 bed social housing we want to live together but I own a 1 bed flat , is this a problem for me to move in with her ?0 -

but the OP didnt say.
alternative would be to sell the 1-bed, and buy/rent a 3-bed on the open market elsewhere to live together.
would still free up the social housing property.
i am not a social housing expert, but doesnt sound right to retain a 3-bed social housing property if you actually form one household in which one of the parties owns a property that is being rented out…0 -
OP moving in with partner and not going on the tenancy gives them no rights over the property. If I was the partner, I would not want to give up the security of a social housing property that I may have been on the waiting list for for a very long time. Because if the relationship ends and they’ve given up the tenancy, they won’t get another one.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Yes but would he really bad advice to the partner in a 3-bed tenancy to give it up for a property they have no stake in! Especially if it’s a fairly new relationship or if one part has children. More details needed!MFW 2021 #76 £5,145

this happened to me, I had a flat, I sold it , moved in with partner who had a child in her 2:bed council flat.
this was 1997.
the council gave me a trial tenancy for one year, then a secure tenancy with her.
but I had capital below the limits as I made little profit when I sold my flat as I had only owned it for 2 years
we got married, moved into a house owned by mother in law, then got divorced, I was made homeless and moved into a hostelChristians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )

Not quite the same situation though because the two of you together chose to move out of the social housing property? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

If after you move in with her (which shouldn't be a problem unless tenancy does not permit it or your moving in means you've all breached overcrowding regulations) if you then rent your one-bed out you'll be liable for all the fun of declaring ALL the rent and Capital gains tax assuming it goes up in value.Pauls1404 said:Hi I hope someone can help me , my partner has been put into a 3 bed social housing we want to live together but I own a 1 bed flat , is this a problem for me to move in with her ?
I'd suggest those both will be problems, if only because of the taxes and admin...- plus the fun of finding out about being a landlord...0
