IHD smart meter
Options
Hi, I am currently a customer of Scottish Power and I am having trouble with my IHD smart meter. It is faulty and does not work properly. I have contacted Scottish Power and they said they do not have any IHD smart meter in stock and they told me to purchase my own. I find this advice wrong and would like some advice from someone with more knowledge than myself. Any help would be appreciated.

How long ago did you get the IHD?0

Don't bother with the toy - put in a drawer. Get into the habit of reading the actual Smart which is in your garage or an outside meter box - keep the records.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Sadly it’s not wrong , unless it is less than 12 months old. The IHD is basically a toy imho, or they would say a guide. The meter in your meter cupboard or wherever it is the best source of information, sadly it doesn’t have live feed into your house without an IHD. Some people have Hildebrand which feeds into the bright app too., they are c 70.004.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0

Yep. It is correct.
Once out of a warranty period (1 year mayhap) they wash their hands of them.
Smart meter still sends the data to supplier and you can access that data via Apps... SP may have their own?
OR Use a third party App... Bright, Hugo, et al
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/energy/energy-supply/your-energy-meter/fixing-problems-with-your-smart-meters-in-home-display/ suggests that SP might help in some circumstances but they ought to point you to where you can buy compatible IHDs...
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/smart-meter-in-home-display-voluntary-replacement-principles/smart-meter-in-home-display-voluntary-replacement-principles is what the Govt guidance is.
Replacements are such as https://ivie.co.uk/product/ivie-bud/ and the https://shop.glowmarkt.com/products/display-and-cad-combined-for-smart-meter-customers
Don't be tempted to buy any old/second user units of eBay and the like as they cannot usually be registered to your smart meter comms unit like the brand new units from the makers.

Also, there's nothing to complain about if a smart meter without IHD is acting the same as a traditional meter and that's something you're attached to.0 -

I find my IHD useful for real-time monitoring and making more precise measurements where a tapo can't be used. Mine is under my TV and I can tell at glance whether I've left something running that shouldn't be. My electricity use is half what it was 10 years ago and much of that was driven by measurement
It's also much more convenient for some meters. There's no reason not to trust the energy readings, provided they pass simple sanity checks - cost is a different matter.
