Car failed MOT after pre-check

Oh, well, he's just sent me the invoice for the parts I need and a labour estimate and he's put "MOT free of charge" so that's OK then, he obviously realised he was in the wrong there

Perhaps you need to find a new garage.FlorayG said:I didn't need to - he told me about it the last time the car was in for repairs a few weeks ago so he knew they were leaking. It seems he didn't think that was valid for MOT, my argument would be if you can't do a 'real' MOT pre-check why do you offer it?0 -
If they are sending it back to same MOT tester, then a retest within a certain time frame can be free....FlorayG said:Oh, well, he's just sent me the invoice for the parts I need and a labour estimate and he's put "MOT free of charge" so that's OK then, he obviously realised he was in the wrong there
TBF, your asking a non MOT tester to check to see if it will pass. They may think it is OK, abut tester does not.Life in the slow lane0 -

I haven't paid for the fail0 -
With older cars it is a good idea to get the MOT done a month before it is due and then decide whether it is worth the expense or not of getting the works done. Looks like you are getting to that point.0

Yes I do know this obviously. Anyway it's a classic and now worth a lot more than I paid for it so that's not relevantArunmor said:With older cars it is a good idea to get the MOT done a month before it is due and then decide whether it is worth the expense or not of getting the works done. It wasn't that obvious, because in your opening post you said you'd been unexpectedly left without a car for a week last time and it happened "yet again" this year. It was a reasonable assumption that it failed its MOT close to the expiry date, even if that wasn't the case.FlorayG said:
