Keep your windows shut!!! The insulation that keeps the heat in in winter will keep the heat out in summer! Yes that means keeping your curtains drawn.
Open windows at night to let residual heat out. But flies are dormant then, so no problem!
It's a peculiarly British trait that we like to open our windows when the sun's out. Yeah, make inside hotter and also invite the flying bar stewards in... Fight that British instinct!2 -
If it's your magnetic attraction that's the problem and you're going to bathe in the stuff then don't just dab Lavender oil...........get some base oil (almond or grape) and some Citronella oil. You can't sweat that off.You used to be able to buy Citronella in a wipe on forumla but I looked last year and no one does it any more.Get some unscented base like Aqueous Cream and add a few drops of Citronella to that.I made some up for walking on the moors and Horseflies..........now those you don't get. Something to be grateful for.Or burn a Citronella candle where they come in.I travelled 360 miles up the Amazon with 24 others. I was the only one who didn't get bitten with my Citronella and Lavender in a base oil (I smelled gorgeous
) while the others sweated off their fancy Jungle spray. You could try the Jungle spray but it's nasty stuff. Works though.
The local guide said they use lemons on their skin. Bit drying and sticky. Before the trip I was advised by a pharmasist to have Mint chrystals in a dish but they'd run outLavender works well on pillows and skin if there's a British mossie about.Interesting about the cleaning of knobs and handles. I'll do that if I get the fruitflies back. Couldn't think why they kept infesting my clean kitchen.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I may have an answer. It's worked for 2 days so results are ongoing.I have a string door curtain (gold and silver glittery) and that didn't keep them out. They were clever enough to get between the strings.I had flies sunning themselves on the wall just outside my kitchen. Going by what has been said on here I got a 'fresh air spray' the sort you use in the toilet etc and sprayed the strings to disguise any other lesser smells inside. So far not any flies, no house flies and no fruit flies despite raspberries sitting in a bowl all day and all windows and doors open. But then I knew they were coming in the kitchen door.May try it on the bedroom net curtains and see if it stops the spiders!

Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -

CITRONELLA CANDLES
We live in an area where there are endless numbers of flies, daddy-long-legs, wasps, moths and midges and the occasional spider on patrol.
For years I've been using Citronella scented candles. You can buy them by the hundred on Amazon for a very small price.
They are the size of night-lights, but yellow in colour. Humans can't notice the scent while they are burning, (but you can if you hold a cold one up to your nose). They burn for many hours each, do not scent the room, but I can have 4 windows and a patio door open in summer with no problems when I have a candle alight. They are my life savers, as I can't abide any type of creepy-crawly. Or getting hot, so I have to open the windows.
Yep, invest a very small amount of money in Citronella candles from Amazon, you'll get your life back!
BE SAFETY AWARE, KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN AND FLAMABLE CURTAINS ETC., and place on an inflammable coaster or plate etc. to keep surfaces from marking.1
