The landlord has said that they can put a run on the patio.

    Solves the issue.
Would the patio damage the rabbit's feet? It doesn't seem very natural - also what about rats or foxes attacking it.
Presumably the friend  would be outside there with it all rather than just taking it outside and dumping it.

OP, Your friend doesn’t have a choice. If they are a lodger and they continue to allow their rabbit to damage things, they can be asked to leave. I also think it’s cruel to have a rabbit on its own stuck inside all the time whether it’s out of its cage running around one room or not.
Rehoming is always an option. It may be one that has a deleterious impact on the owner. It’s still  an option.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Rabbits are social creatures so should not be kept locked up in an indoor cage. Your friend should rehome the rabbit.
For reasons that I can't share that is not possible.
    But you asked
Any solution or will they have to get rid of their rabbit which is quite important to them.
The answer appears to be yes, they will have to get rid of it, hopefully by contacting a responsible rescue who will ensure it goes to a suitable home

Perhaps your friend needs to move? I have a lodger here, if she had a pet rabbit I would be happy to let it have the run of the house ( but then I know a bit about rabbits)
  • I suppose the patio is the best answer they need to buy a puppy pen and supervise the rabbit while it's out there. Put a box or something in it so it can hide if it wants to

Nothing natural about a room. I'm assuming this is to allow the rabbit to exercise not a permanent home.
True but for a human carpet is a lot easier to walk on than a patio maybe the same for the rabbit's feet.
Rabbits have claws designed to burrow. As that's what they do in the wild. Indoors there's nothing to wear them down.

I'm more of cat person than a rabbit person, but I grow 'cat grass' (wheat grass) for mine in large planters, as the garden is paved. If you're worried about rabbits feet on pavings, something similar could be done for in an outside run? Dead easy, something like a plastic cat litter tray with a few drainage holes drilled in would be perfect, but any large shallow container would work, soil or compost, few seeds... Add some dandelions! That would give them a choice... But they may well just kick the soil everywhere and burrow. Like I said, cat person! Just an idea.
