Hi,
A little while ago I switched out of BG (dual - paid quarterly). Recently got expected email 'Your final bill is ready to view' and saying 'Your account balance is £449.95 in debit. Please pay £449.95 by 24 July 2024'
When I log in to pay it, it shows a debit of -£ 498.17.  The actual bill is complex with lots of calculations and cancellations, charges, adjustments due to readings submitted..

Up to this bill I was not in debt, all paid up to date.

The bill states Your total energy costs (inc. VAT and any adjustments) -£ 498.17
But then it states Your final balance on 10 Jul 2024 Debit -£ 449.95
Please pay £449.95 by 24 July 2024, thank you.

So I paid the 449.95 as billed. Account still shows in debit £48.22, in the online chat they insist I must still pay the £48.22.

If the calculations came to £498, why didn't the bill ask for payment of £498 instead of £449.
It feels like I am being conned to cover up their system can't pick the right numbers.

Wha we're your start Readings and what were your end readings from your meter. Do you own calculations not forgetting standing charges and vat and then deduct all more paid to BG and see if you agree or not,

They decide if you have been conned

I've found the only way to deal with energy bills is to formulate the bill yourself before you read theirs.  Thank goodness I have done that for years as recently I had bills cancelled & reissued for different periods & then finally over a years worth (the same as the other cancelled ones) cancelled & reissued.  Unfortunately they don't seem to be able to be trusted - or at least they have totally rubbish billing systems.

^^^^ this..... there's not many energy companies that have nice simple billing systems, and they really overcomplicate the calcs when having to re-do bills

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D
