You can use a taxi without a car seat for kids.
The only rule os that you must use one if it's provided
Whether you can legally do so, doesn’t make it the safest option.

We had a prebooked taxi to the airport this year, it worked out cheaper than parking for one car at Bristol Airport, and we would have had to take 2 cars.

We generally fly from Birmingham and find that a pre-booked taxi costs little more than 2 weeks parking and petrol.  A 'No Brainer' for us.

Thanks so much, everyone - really appreciate all your input.

I think I am going to go with a specific airport transfer company, for the reasons mentioned above.

This website seems to get lots of good reviews, so shall give them a whirl:

I’d definitely look at getting a proper airport transfer firm rather than relying on Uber – surge pricing can be nasty if it’s early morning or late at night. We’ve been caught out before. Some local companies will also bring a booster seat if you ask when booking.

I used comparetaxiprices.com last time to check a few different firms and it was handy to see the range before booking. Ended up cheaper than parking too.

    Morning all.

I often leave my car at the airport, when we go on our annual holiday, but I have had a few car issues that have meant that I need to use some sort of taxi service, this year, for a return trip.

As a general rule, I would be grateful for any advice on whether Uber might be a sensible idea or whether I should use taxi services that specialise in airport runs.

The other thing, that might cause issues, is that I am travelling with a 9-year-old, so we would need a booster seat to be provided.

I do have an Uber account but I have only ever used it once, so I have no idea how expensive trips are, generally - my one use was expensive, but then it was for a New Year's eve party.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.
When I've needed to be at the airport at 6am I've used taxi rather than Uber because there's a risk of shortage of Uber drivers at that time (in my area).
Generally, rather than paying for expensive road transport, I pay extra to fly at a more reasonable time of day...making it practical for me to take the train to the airport

That's great if you can get flights at a more reasonable time.  Flights to where we are going on holiday are either early morning around 6am, or late afternoon which effectively loses a day of the holiday.  A late flight home often means having to vacate by midday and then kick our heels for several hours.  Not our idea of fun.

What airport & distance are you talking about?

Any chance you could get a train or bus?

A better option for here is taxi to the local big train station which is then less than 20 mins in v frequent trains to airport. Could this be an option?

Tis both cheaper, more reliable and there's barely any difference at the other end for getting to security/baggage drop at the other end
